Why use a commercial purging compound like Purgex?

Purging to change colors or materials is traditionally done by running out the previous resin while using the next resin to remove the previous resin from the machine. Following the resin purge, parts are rejected until clean, regardless how much otherwise usable resin is consumed. Utilizing a commercial purging compound (CPC) instead of resin to purge provides significant economic advantages:  Check out our Why Purgex Is Better Page to better understand what a commercial purging compound like Purgex can do for you.

How much does Purgex Cost?

Purgex is priced below the typical market price for commercial purging compounds, with the best performance-to-cost ratio in the industry. For a specific price quote, please contact us.

Does Purgex have a shelf life?

No. There is no shelf life provided that it is properly stored in a dry area and temperature should not exceed 150°F.

How long can I leave Purgex in the barrel?

We recommend you follow the purging procedures, but extended residence time will not harm the equipment, or decrease the effectiveness of Purgex.

Do I have to raise or lower my barrel temperatures to make Purgex work better?

No. Purgex is designed to work at resin processing temperatures. This allows you to make faster material and color changes, saving you time and money

Is Purgex recommended for hot runner systems?

Yes. All Purgex grades can be processed through gates as small as .030-inch, or .75mm.

How Much Purgex is reqiured to clean an Injection Molding Machine?

We recommend 1½ times the injection capacity to clean the barrel and screw.  If you want to clean the hot runner manifold as well as the barrel and screw, use 2 times the injection capacity.

How is Purgex Different From Other Purging Compounds?

Purgex stands apart from other commercial purging compounds with its chemically-engineered high efficiency cleaning.  Purgex products have a dual cleaning action, with mechanical cleaning properties plus a unique expanding/foaming turbulence to thoroughly and safely clean injection molding machines, hot runner systems and extruders.  The removal of all residual materials in the machine (including remnants of other commercial purging compounds) can be expected when using Purgex.  All active ingredients in Purgex Commercial Purging Compounds are FDA-approved for use in food and pharmaceutical applications.

What do you purge?

  • Barrel and screw

  • Nozzle and check ring

  • Sprue bushing

  • Hot runner system / manifold

When to purge?

  • Color changes

  • Mold/material changes

  • Color and material changes

  • Inclusions or contamination becomes an issue

  • Shutdown/start-up

  • Routine preventative maintenance

When using a commercial purging compound on a regular basis, you will have faster changeovers, prevent contamination and build-up, and make screw changes or cleaning simpler and quicker.

Do I need more than 1 grade of Purgex if only some of my resins are filled?

No. Purgex grades used for filled resins will also effectively purge unfilled resins.

Who needs to use commercial purging compounds?

Injection molders, extruders, blow molders, film processors, and compounders all need commercial purging compounds such as Purgex.
